I had the honor this afternoon to speak to all of the 1st Graders at Metrolina Christian Academy about the importance of Veteran's Day. I showed pictures, answered questions, did some push-ups, and gave out military prayer coins. Like anything in life, the earlier a child learns something is important the more they will appreciate and respect it when they are older. Proverbs 22:6 states that we should "train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." This scripture doesn't have to only be about the Bible, it can go further, much further, to encompass all areas of life. There is great wisdom in training children to understand and respect what they don't understand, especially the need to honor veterans, military service, and most importantly God.
