In Matthew 11:25-30, Jesus makes some powerful, yet comforting commands. First, He says that God has hidden "these things" from the wise. Who are the wise? Well, Jesus referred to the Jewish leaders as the wise, but this also refers to those who arrogantly refuse to acknowledge their sinfulness, repent of their sins, and learn the true way to God through Jesus Christ. Those who do this find a deep intimacy with the Lord that can't be expressed in words. But in verse 28, Jesus speaks three of my favorite words ever spoken "Come to Me." Jesus instructed everyone by saying this "Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." As we prepare to redeploy, our troops are "weary and burdened." For some its the burden of finding employment, for others its a failing marriage, for others it could be an out of wedlock child birth that occurred while they've been away, and for many its something else. Anyone can understand how these problems can make a person weary. We don't need to see psychological statistics on the increase of stress and anxiety related disorders to know that these issues can mentally and emotionally depress a person to the point of giving up hope. In our modern culture, young people, especially young soldiers on deployment turn to video games, movies, and other methods of loosing themselves for temporary periods of time. But, internally the Bible tells us that a person will never have peace and will remain weary and empty until they reconcile with their Creator.
It is my pray that our soldiers will obey Jesus and experience the overwhelming peace and comfort that He provides me every moment of my life.
Take away these biblical promises from God in verses 28-30:
Jesus' yoke is light and easy
We will learn from Jesus
Jesus is gentle
Jesus is humble in heart
In Jesus we will find rest
Jesus' burden is light
Most importantly...no one knows the Father except Jesus. Translation, you can't know the Father unless you know Jesus!
Don't remain unresponsive, accept Jesus' offer and "Come to Him," its the only thing that can change your life.
